CAMERA Prompts Reuters Correction on Palestinian ‘Ambassador’

CAMERA’s Israel office has prompted correction of a Reuters article which erroneously identified the chief Palestinian envoy in Washington as an “ambassador.” Regarding Husam Zomlot, the Nov. 21 Reuters article (“U.S. wants PLO’s Washington office to stay open: State Dept.”) had erred:

CAMERA contacted Reuters and pointed out that the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) mission in Washington is not an embassy, and Zomlot is not an ambassador. He is a chief envoy, or head of the delegation. The Los Angeles Times has previously corrected the identical error earlier this month.

On Nov. 29, Reuters commendably corrected the article, which now accurately refers to the “chief representative” instead of “ambassador.”

In addition, editors inserted a note at the top of the article alerting readers to the change.
