Road Map

Error (CNN.com, Yoav Appel, 3/27/05): Israel says the Palestinian Authority must disarm militant groups.

Correction (3/29/05): The stalled road map calls for the Palestinian Authority to dismantle "terrorist capabilities and infrastructure," including confiscating illegal weapons and consolidating security authority.

Error (Chicago Tribune, Uli Schmetzer, 7/23/03): Israel has said it will not withdraw from occupied territories in the West Bank, as required by the U.S.-backed “road map” peace plan, unless the Palestinian Authority disarms what Israel calls terrorist organizations such as Hamas, Islamic Jihad and the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade.

Correction (8/8/03): A story on Page 3 of the main news section July 23 should have pointed out that the U.S.-backed road map for peace links an Israeli pullout from Palestinian lands to disarmament of Palestinian militant groups.

Error (Chicago Tribune, Uli Schmetzer, 7/5/03): Israel is obliged under the peace process to release prisoners, and Prime Minister Ariel Sharon is in a bind.

Correction (7/10/03): A story in the main news section Saturday about the Middle East incorrectly stated that Israel is obliged under the peace process to release prisoners. It is not.

Error (Wall Street Journal, Guy Chazan, 5/16/03): Mr. Sharon has said Israel has 15 reservations about the plan, and won’t carry out one of its key requirements–dismantling Jewish settlements on land occupied by Israel since 1967–in the foreseeable future.

Correction (5/21/03): THE “ROAD MAP” plan backed by the U.S. requires the government of Israel to freeze all settlement activity and dismantle settlement outposts erected since March 2001. An International page article Friday incorrectly stated that the plan requires Israel to dismantle Jewish settlements on land occupied by Israel since 1967.

Error (Los Angeles Times, Henry Chu and Ruth Morris, 5/2/03): The [road map] document calls on Israel to withdraw from the West Bank and to end its settlements.

Correction (5/3/03): Middle East “road map” – Recent articles, including one in Friday’s Section A, stated that the Middle East peace initiative calls on Israel to withdraw from the West Bank and end its settlements. The document calls on Israel to withdraw from Palestinian areas occupied after Sept. 28, 2000. The plan also calls on Israel to dismantle settlement outposts erected since March 2001 and freeze all settlement activity.
