The New York Times has characterized as a successful “cease-fire” Palestinian firing of “large-caliber” mortars and anti-tank grenades against Israeli troops, and the murder of an Israeli civilian. (Gaza Strip: Cease-fire Holds, June 22 news brief, reprinted below)

Apparently from the Times perspective only Israeli fire against Palestinians would violate the cease-fire. Palestinian attacks against Israelis – including fatal ones – just don’t count. The full story is reprinted below:

Gaza Strip: Cease-Fire Holds

Palestinians in the Gaza Strip lobbed a large-caliber mortar shell at a border crossing into Israel and fired antitank grenades at Israeli troops near the border with Egypt, lightly wounding a soldier, the army said. In the West Bank a fragile cease-fire held, but Palestinians reported that Jewish settlers burned cars, wheat fields and an olive grove in an area where a settler was shot dead on Wednesday.
