CAMERA Obtains Correction at NPR

CAMERA elicited the following minimal correction from NPR concerning the location of the Israeli community of Meitar, which is located fully within Israel, just south of the Green Line.

Error (NPR, Peter Kenyon, 2/28/04): Earlier, two other Palestinian armed factions claimed responsibility for a shooting attack that killed two Jewish settlers, a young husband and wife near the settlement of Meitar. The couple is survived by a two-year-old daughter.

Correction (3/13/04): We have one correction to make. In a newscast report on Saturday, February 28th, about an attack on Jewish settlers, we referred to the incident occurring near the settlement of Meitar. Meitar is not a settlement.

CAMERA Comment:  NPR's correction does not state directly what Meitar is and where it is located–a Jewish town fully in Israel. The "correction" is also misleading as to the fate of the "Jewish settlers;" they were murdered, not simply “attack[ed].” Finally, in the original statement the groups that NPR euphemistically terms “Palestinian armed factions,” the ones claiming responsibility for the murder of the Israeli couple, were the PFLP and Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, both listed as terrorist organizations by the U.S. State Department.
