CAMERA Prompts Washington Post Correction on Fatah Anniversary

CAMERA staff have elicited a Washington Post correction today regarding an article which wrongly stated that Fatah’s rally last week in the Gaza Strip was to celebrate 48 years since its founding. In fact, the organization was celebrating 48 years since its first armed attack on Israel.

The error and correction follow:

Error (Washington Post, Joel Greenberg, 1/5/13): The Fatah party of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas held a mass rally in Gaza on Friday to mark the 48thanniversary of its founding ….

Correction (1/8/13): A Jan. 5 A-section article about a mass rally in the Gaza Strip incorrectly said that it marked the 48th anniversary of the founding of the Palestinian political party Fatah. The rally commemorated the 48th anniversary of Fatah’s first armed mission against Israel.

CAMERA commends the Washington Post for its timely correction, and is corresponding with other media outlets whose reports contained the same error.
