CAMERA Requests Clarification About Boston Globe Photo

A Boston Globe article about an Israeli high court ruling allowing Palestinians to sue the Israeli military for damages was accompanied by a misleading photo of three Palestinian children killed by Hamas gunmen.

The Globe caption that ran underneath the Reuters photo read “Palestinians displayed an image of the slain sons of an intelligence official at a rally yesterday in Gaza” suggesting that these three children were victims of the Israeli military against whom lawsuits could now be brought.  CAMERA requested a clarification.

The following  clarification was published on December 14, 2006:

For the record

  • Clarification: The placement of a photograph on yesterday’s World page of three slain Palestinian children with a story about an Israeli court ruling allowing Palestinians to sue Israel’s military for damages may have implied that Israelis were responsible for the children’s killings.  Palestinian gunmen are suspected of carrying out the killings.
