Following communication from Presspectiva, CAMERA’s Hebrew Web site, the English edition of Ha’aretz has corrected an online article which stated as fact that the Israeli army shot to death Gazan Mustafa Abu Jarad. As reported in the Hebrew edition of the same paper, the army had denied any involvement in the shooting of Abu Jarad.
Ha’aretz editors have revised one online article which wrongly omitted the IDF’s denial, though another story which also unequivocally blamed the army for Abu Jarad’s death has not been fixed. Nor have editors published a print correction, though the misreporting had appeared in print as well, as we noted earlier this month.
The correction of the online article, along with the original misreporting, follow:
Error (Ha’aretz, Chaim Levinson and Jack Khoury, 1/16/13): The incidents came a day after Israeli soldiers shot and killed a Palestinian man in the Gaza town of Beit Lahiya near the border with Israel. Gazan officials said Mustafa Abu Jarad, 21, was a farmer. He was taken to Shifa hospital, where doctors said he died from his wounds.
Correction (Online as of 1/24/13): The incidents came a day after Palestinian sources said that Israeli soldiers shot and killed a Palestinian man in the Gaza town of Beit Lahiya near the border with Israel. Gazan officials said Mustafa Abu Jarad, 21, was a farmer. He was taken to Shifa hospital, where doctors said he died from his wounds. The IDF denied involvement in the incident.
