A book portraying the Jewish state as all-powerful and unscrupulous, entangled in global conspiracies, wars and influence-peddling was co-authored by Leslie Cockburn who is currently running as a candidate for Congress in the 5th District of Virginia.
There is a disturbing trend within certain Jewish journalistic circles to conform to the extreme, “progressive” zeitgeist in which religious values, Jewish leaders and most of all, the Jewish state and its supporters are consistently condemned. And nowhere is this trend as pronounced as at The Forward under the helm of editor‑in‑chief Jane Eisner.
As condemnation of the Jewish state in the media becomes more and more extreme, those leveling the charges are proclaiming themselves to be the true friends of Israel.
Harvard Professor Stephen Walt cannot get his facts straight. He claims that "the official policy of every president since Lyndon Johnson" has been to dub settlements illegal, an argument that ignores the official policy of every president since Ronald Reagan.
"Israel Lobby" professors Walt and Mearsheimer charge that because of its alleged misdeeds Israel is an unworthy ally of the U.S., and cite as proof numerous seemingly damaging "quotations" from Israeli leaders. The problem is that all the quotations are from secondary sources or worse, and all are false.
A Los Angeles Times op-ed by Stephen Walt and John Mearsheimer spewed more of the authors anti-Israel inaccuracies and was accompanied by an anti-Semitic cartoon more at home in a neo-Nazi publication than a supposedly major newspaper.
