Media Corrections

Accuracy and accountability are among the most important tenets of journalism. In combination, they mean media organizations are expected to publish or broadcast forthright corrections after sharing inaccurate information. The following corrections are among the many prompted by CAMERA’s communication with reporters and editors.

 

CAMERA Prompts Corrected AFP Article

An AFP article today incorrectly stated that in September Israel completely cut off the Palestinian territories. CAMERA communicated with editors, and the erroneous information was removed in an updated version of the story later in the day. The two versions of the article follow:

CAMERA Prompts IHT Correction on Erekat Falsehood

As noted on CAMERA's blog Nov. 27, Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat wrongly stated in an Op-Ed in the International Herald Tribune that Israel's military is the fifth largest in the world. CAMERA pointed out the error to editors, and as a result, a correction ran today. The error and correction follow:

CAMERA Member Prompts LA Times Correction

A CAMERA member has prompted the following correction in the Los Angeles Times concerning an article which misidentified Palestinian-controlled areas in the West Bank and Gaza as "Palestine":

CAMERA Prompts BBC Correction on Rafah

As noted by CAMERA's blog yesterday, a BBC caption on the "In pictures" section incorrectly stated that Palestinians "took back" control of the Rafah border crossing with Egypt. CAMERA staff notified BBC editors about the error, and the caption was corrected. The error and correction follow:

NY Times, IHT Correct: Rabin Assassin Not a Settler

As noted on CAMERA's blog on Sunday, a brief in the New York Times and International Herald Tribune misidentified Israeli Prime Minister Rabin's assassin as a settler. CAMERA staff contacted editors from both media outlets that day, and the following corrections appeared today:

UPDATED: Providence Journal Redresses Op-Ed Errors

The following letter appeared in the Providence Journal in response to a fallacious op-ed by error-prone Palestinian activist Mazin Qumsiyeh. Qumsiyeh misstated both the number of Palestinians killed by settlers and the number of immigrants in Israel. On Nov. 1, over two months after the error was published, the newspaper finally cleared the record with a correction.

CAMERA Prompts Boston Globe Correction on Gaza Settlers

CAMERA staff prompted the following Boston Globe correction today regarding an article earlier this week which reported as fact what turned out to be a false allegation by a Palestinian official against Israeli settlers in Gaza.

CAMERA Prompts Improvement at Reuters

In response to communication from CAMERA staff, Reuters has updated a feature article by Cynthia Johnston to correct the misinformation that the Gaza Stip is the most densely populated place on earth.
