      Same Old Hamas, Same Old Media?

      Despite its victory in Palestinian parliamentary elections, Hamas remains the same old organization committed to Israel's destruction. News consumers might be forgiven, however, for thinking the group has reformed, because much of the American media appears eager to minimize threats to Israel and to blame the Jewish state for all lack of progress in Israeli-Palestinian diplomacy.

      Sensational AP Report Misleads on Israeli Raid

      On Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005, an Israeli hit-squad opened fire on a group of Palestinians without provocation, killing five in a gangland-style attack. Or, at least, that is what an extremely misleading Associated Press news story would have you believe.

      CAMERA Prompts Corrected AP Article

      An AP article on Friday by Ali Daraghmeh misreported Israel's criteria for releasing Palestinian prisoners as stricter than they actually were. CAMERA staff intervened that day, leading to a corrected, updated version which was sent out to newspapers around the world. The error and corrected version follow:

      July 2 update follows. The foreign desk at the Associated Press wire service apparently has no mechanism in place to correct factual errors. Over the last year, evidence regarding more than half a dozen straight-forward substantive errors was passed from editor to editor until it fell by the wayside. This was the case in a June 10 error by correspondent Ali Daraghmeh, who falsely reported that in the West Bank, "Israel does not allow Palestinian officers to patrol in uniform."
