This Oct. 25, 2026, Op-Ed by CAMERA’s Darcie Grunblatt was published by Jerusalem News Syndicate.

“Be truthful, not neutral” is the adage Christiane Amanpour adopted as her journalistic philosophy while reporting on the Bosnian War in the 1990s for CNN.

After working at the network for 43 years, Amanpour announced on Oct. 19 that she will be leaving the network in June 2027.

Known for glamorously jetting into the latest conflict zones, Amanpour has become a household name, even appearing in the cult classic “Gilmore Girls” as protagonist Rory Gilmore’s career idol. Amanpour’s legacy will largely be remembered for bringing the human cost of war to American living rooms, having covered the first Gulf War, Bosnia and the Rwandan genocide, as well as conflicts between the Russians and Ukrainians, and the Israelis and Palestinians.

While her style of advocacy journalism, which she frames as a devotion to “truth,” has earned her 10 Emmys, four Peabody Awards, two Polk Awards and many more accolades, she has faced criticism over the years for taking sides in various conflicts.
