New York Times Corrects: Ramat Shlomo Not an “Arab Neighborhood”

The New York Times published an article yesterday that incorrectly described Ramat Shlomo as an “Arab neighborhood.”

In March 2010, while serving as secretary of state, [Hillary Clinton] sharply criticized the Israeli authorities for approving new Jewish housing in an Arab neighborhood of East Jerusalem when the United States was trying to get the Israelis and Palestinians back to the negotiating table.

CAMERA informed editors that Clinton was referring to Ramat Shlomo, and reminded them that the neighborhood is in fact a Jewish one that is situated across the 1949 armistice line in northern Jerusalem. To its credit, the newspaper quickly published a correction acknowledging that it “misstated the type of neighborhood” referred to in Clinton’s speech. “It was a Jewish neighborhood, not an Arab neighborhood.” We first noted the error earlier today on our Snapshots blog.
