Strengthened by Purpose: CAMERA’s Impact in 2024

2024 has been a year of challenges, accomplishments, and significant expansion for CAMERA, as the need to refute lies about Israel and confront antisemitism has grown more urgent. From combating media distortions to advocating for fair representation in classrooms and on campuses, our mission to promote truth about the Jewish people has never been more essential.

While the IDF’s successes against Hamas and Hezbollah have been an immense relief, CAMERA’s work to counter relentless media attacks on Israel has only intensified. Below, we share six of our key achievements from 2024, made possible by the generosity of our supporters.

As we look to 2025, your continued support will be vital. If you are able, a year-end donation, no matter the size, would be greatly appreciated. Click here to donate. Thank you!

1. Championing Truth in Global Media

CAMERA achieved a record-breaking number of corrections in 2024 — over 630 errors were replaced by accurate, improved information across a wide range of international media outlets.

This dramatic milestone was the result of thousands of hours of behind-the-scenes work, involving research, phone calls, emails, and meetings with journalists, editors, and media organizations. CAMERA’s grassroots letter-writing Rapid Response team also played a significant part in this year’s achievement, demonstrating the incredible power of collective action in holding the media accountable and combating misinformation.

Our dedicated members sent an impressive 8,272 letters and tweets to journalists, editors, and media outlets worldwide, deploring inaccuracies and advocating for factual reporting. Their efforts resulted in 616 published letters to the editor, amplifying the facts for millions of readers and setting the record straight.

2. Groundbreaking K-12 Education Initiatives

The CAMERA Education Institute (CEI) made major strides in educating the next generation and combating antisemitism in schools. Outstanding staff were added to address rapidly growing demands, and CEI launched a newsletter and dynamic social media channels to engage parents, teachers, and others. CEI also developed The History of the Jewish People in the Land of Israel, an exciting and important K-12 curriculum that helps educators teach accurate history and counter anti-Israel misinformation.

CEI hosted two major community events in Massachusetts and Maryland to raise awareness about the crisis in education, the battle against antisemitism and how community members can join the fight for sound education. The staff also participated in the National Council for Teachers of English (NCTE) convention, showcasing literature that accurately portrays Jews and Israel. Despite facing intimidation from anti-Israel activists, CEI gained support and exposed alarming tactics like calls to burn books. CEI’s work earned widespread media recognition and solidified its leadership in combating propaganda and promoting Jewish and Israeli history in education.

3. High-Impact Campus Advocacy in Higher Education

In 2024, CAMERA on Campus expanded its reach and influence across North America, Israel, and the UK, combating antisemitism and promoting accurate information about Israel and the Jewish community. In North America, the department organized three successful nationwide speaking tours, hosted the 14th Annual International Student Leadership Conference, and engaged over 275,000 website visitors and 310,000 social media followers through more than 115 campus events.

In Israel, CAMERA on Campus played a pivotal role in addressing global antisemitism, hosting events with survivors of the October 7 attacks and participating in Knesset discussions. The department worked with the World Zionist Organization and the National Union of Israeli Students to secure commitments from 24 Israeli colleges to adopt the IHRA definition of antisemitism. In the UK, CAMERA continued to grow, adding 11 campuses and hiring its first full-time staff member to support a record number of CAMERA UK Fellows.

4. Expanding Global Media Monitoring

CAMERA’s incomparable research analysts published over 1,000 articles and reports, dismantling misinformation and exposing bias. Notable achievements included our Israel office staff securing hundreds of corrections in U.S., British, and Israeli media; obtaining 120 corrections from the Associated Press; and our research team publishing investigative reports that countered anti-Israel narratives in major news outlets and at elite universities like Brown. CAMERA’s incisive analyses appeared on influential platforms like the Washington Examiner, National Review, the New York Post, the Free Press, Fox News, JNS, Commentary, among many other news outlets.

CAMERA UK: Secured over 50 media corrections and collaborated with experts to expose systemic bias at the BBC, influencing journalistic standards. Reports submitted to UK parliamentary committees highlighted media’s role in shaping perceptions of Israel and Jewish communities.

CAMERA Arabic: Exposed antisemitism and misinformation in Arabic-language media, including CBS News and BBC Arabic, prompting scores of corrections and international calls for greater accountability. CAMERA Arabic’s findings catalyzed global discussions about the importance of journalistic integrity.

CAMERA Español: Published 75 articles, including a landmark study on biased headlines in El País, the world’s largest Spanish-language newspaper, and secured corrections from major Spanish-language outlets. These efforts reached millions of readers and strengthened CAMERA’s influence in the Spanish-speaking world.

CAMERA’s Presspectiva: CAMERA’s Hebrew-language staff at Presspectiva, continued their work exposing error, distortion and hypocrisy in the Hebrew media and educating Israeli audiences about journalistic bias and its global impact. In addition, they hosted workshops and discussions with major Israeli journalists, contributing to a more informed public discourse. Presspectiva launched targeted campaigns that highlighted how inaccurate reporting affects public perception and policy-making in Israel and beyond.

5. Building Stronger Christian Advocacy for Israel

CAMERA’s Partnership of Christians and Jews built bridges between communities, countered anti-Israel misinformation in Christian media, and hosted high-impact events focused on the threat of antisemitism. Through webinars, speaking engagements, and joint initiatives, the Partnership deepened mutual understanding and collaboration. CAMERA staff appeared on prominent platforms like CBN News and TBN emphasizing the shared responsibility of Christians and Jews in combating antisemitism and anti-Israel lies. Educational programs equipped Christian leaders with tools to address bias and misinformation, fostering a united front in supporting Israel. With robust programs underway, a year of growth and impact lies ahead.

6. Engaging Minds through Virtual and Visual Media

In 2024, CAMERA intensified its educational outreach by presenting 17 webinars, with many attracting 500-1000 registrants. Leading experts offered insights on the year’s many war-related events as well as the shocking issue of surging antisemitism. Speakers included top geopolitical analysts, media professionals, and social media influencers. Among them were former BBC Director Danny Cohen on the BBC’s “Israel Problem,” IDF Colonel Dr. Eran Lerman with insights on Iran’s terror network, and Dr. Michael Doran’s analysis of Israel’s actions against Iran for U.S. security. Other notable speakers included Lieutenant Colonel Sarit Zehavi, Dr. Einat Wilf, and social media influencer Aviva Klompas, who shared valuable perspectives on military intelligence in Israel’s north, pitfalls in the battle for public opinion, and online messaging strategies.

CAMERA also produced more than 15 short, dynamic videos, making complex historical and current events accessible to a broad audience. Topics ranged from the bogus claims that Jesus was a Palestinian to the Amsterdam Pogrom and the distortion of Jewish history. These videos reinforced CAMERA’s commitment to educating the public with factual, grounded perspectives and reaching out to young audiences in particular. These and other initiatives reflect our continuous dedication to providing insightful, relevant, and timely educational resources.

In a year defined by challenges, these accomplishments reflect the fact that CAMERA and the rest of the pro-Israel world are a force to be reckoned with. Make no mistake: the unwavering tenacity and resilience of our staff and the profound impact of your generous support are making a difference.

As we look ahead to 2025, we are more committed than ever to what we believe is a foremost necessity of our time – fighting the battle for truth against lies about Israel and the Jewish people in an increasingly complex and dangerous world.
