Camera prompts correction on Gaza casualties from Daily Mail

It is well-known that casualty figures coming from the “Gaza Health Ministry” – that is, Hamas – do not distinguish between civilians and combatants. Many news outlets repeat these figures without noting that Israel claims, at last count, 13,000 dead Hamas fighters. Even worse, however, is when news outlets falsely claim that all of the casualties are civilians, as the Daily Mail did on March 10th. (“Biden Administration consulted Israel expert on how to ‘force the Netanyahu coalition to collapse’,” by Nic White.)

The Mail erroneously reported, “[Biden’s] administration has grown increasingly unhappy with the mounting civilian death toll, now at more than 30,000, in Gaza from bombings and ground operations.” After contact from CAMERA, the Mail correct the claim, and the article now reads, “His administration has grown increasingly unhappy with the mounting Palestinian death toll, now at more than 30,000, in Gaza from bombings and ground operations.”
