FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 23, 2026 – Research by the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting and Analysis (CAMERA) is cited extensively in a new congressional report investigating antisemitism in K-12 schools, including the School District of Philadelphia (SDP).
The House Committee on Education and Workforce’s report follows CAMERA’s own 81-page investigation of SDP’s social studies curriculum.
CAMERA’s report, “Shaping Minds, Spreading Hate,” played a significant role in demonstrating that the antisemitism problem in Philadelphia schools was larger than just a few bad teachers — that it was systemic. Governmental scrutiny informed by CAMERA’s original research has led to major changes at SDP.
According to the committee, SDP’s social studies curriculum director is undergoing termination proceedings, and the district has committed to ending the practice of allowing teachers and administrators to write its social studies curricula.
Rebecca Schgallis, Director of CAMERA’s K-12 Program, said: “The House Education and Workforce Committee’s report is a significant step toward accountability, documenting how antisemitism can take root in K-12 education through curriculum, the influence of outside organizations, and the ideologies used to teach history and current events.”
“School leaders must do more than respond to individual antisemitic incidents; they must confront the underlying ideologies, curricular content, and outside influences that have allowed antisemitism to take root in their districts.”
A spokesperson for the SDP JFA (Jewish Family Association) said: “For years, SDP JFA has sounded the alarm about the growing antisemitism within the School District of Philadelphia and called for meaningful change. Since October 7, 2023, we have watched antisemitism proliferate and metastasize.”
“We are grateful to the partner organizations that listened to our concerns, amplified our voices, and helped bring these issues into the light. While we welcome this long-overdue scrutiny, it is only a first step. There is still tremendous work to be done, and any meaningful path forward must include the Jewish community, whose concerns have been dismissed and marginalized for far too long.”
