Additional CNN Corrections

Error (CNN, Brooke Baldwin, 7/23/14): And we are hearing some pretty strong criticism of Israel today. Coming from one of the U.S.’s top human rights officials. The criticism came during an emergency meeting in Geneva.

Correction (7/24/14): And just a note, I mentioned that a human rights official criticized Israel yesterday for its strikes in Gaza. I said “U.S. official.” I meant “U.N. official.” Just wanted to clarify that.

 

Error (CNN, Mohammed Jamjoon, Saad Abedine and Nick Thomson, 9/3/13): Israel, which has long called for al-Assad to step down. . .

Correction (Posted online as of 9/8/13): In 2011, Israeli President Shimon Peres insisted at a news conference that al-Assad “must go,” but the comments have been an exception for the Israeli government. In May of 2013, an Israeli defense ministry official specifically denied that Israel had “done anything against Assad and his regime.”

 

Error (CNN.com, Jason Hanna, Joe Sterling and Michael Martinez, 7/21/13): It annexed East Jerusalem from the Palestinian territories, uniting the historic city to make it the capital of the Jewish state.

Correction (Posted online as of 8/1/13): An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated who controlled East Jerusalem in the years immediately prior to the Arab-Israeli Six-Day War. East Jerusalem was under Jordan’s control when it was taken over by Israel in the 1967 war.

 

Error (CNN, Dec. 3, 2012): A group of soccer stars have called for Israel to be stripped of hosting rights for a top European age-grade tournament next year following last month’s bomb attacks on Gaza. More than 60 players including Didier Drogba … signed a petition …”

Correction (Dec. 7, 2012): Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story stated that 60 players, including Didier Drogba, had signed the petition. The petition on December 6 had 52 signatories, not including Drogba.”

(The article was also updated to note that “CNN has not been able to confirm” the purported reports that, according to the petition, claimed the teens were killed while playing soccer.)

Error (CNN.com, 11/6/12): Israel captured Jerusalem and the West Bank during the Six Day War in 1967.

Correction (Online as of 11/11/12): Israel captured East Jerusalem and the West Bank during the Six Day War in 1967.

 

Error (CNN.com, AP, 5/7/08): Israel at 60 is a place where creativity flourishes but where Palestinians are not allowed on West Bank roads reserved for Jews.

Error (CNN, Lou Dobbs Tonight, 7/11/05): The resettlement aid, if this is approved, would be the largest supplemental assistance to Israel since 1992, when Congress approved $3 billion to pay for damage from errant missiles during the first Gulf War.

Correction (8/18/05): On July 11th, we reported on Israel’s request for U.S. funds to help pay for the relocation of Israeli settlers from Gaza. Lisa Sylvester reported that Israel received $3 billion in 1991 for costs related to errant Patriot missiles during the first Gulf War. The actual amount of emergency supplemental assistance Israel received from the United States in 1991 was $650 million.

 

Error (CNN.com, Yoav Appel, 3/27/05): Israel says the Palestinian Authority must disarm militant groups.

Correction (3/29/05): The stalled road map calls for the Palestinian Authority to dismantle “terrorist capabilities and infrastructure,” including confiscating illegal weapons and consolidating security authority.
