CAMERA Prompts CNN Correction on Israel’s Syria Statements

CAMERA’s Israel office has elicited a correction on a CNN article which had falsely reported that Israel has “long called for [Bashar] al-Assad to step down.” The Sept. 3 article by Mohammed Jamjoon, Saad Abedine and Nick Thompson (“Syria: What do the neighbors think of potential Western strikes?”) had originally reported:
 
 
CAMERA informed CNN that President Shimon Peres’ 2011 call for Assad to step down was an anomaly, and that official Israel had otherwise remained silent on the issue. CNN commendably amended the text, removing the erroneous statement. The corrected text, which currently appears on CNN’s site, follows:
