Appearing on the ABC program The View, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton discussed the history of the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians, especially Hamas, ranging from her time in office to the Oct. 7 attack and beyond.
The segment, which aired on Nov. 8th, is important because Clinton debunks the anti-Israel narrative that has become commonplace in much of the media and a sizeable portion of the population in the US and Europe. And also among the hosts of The View, usually with the notable exception of Alyssa Farah Griffin.
Clinton stressed that those repeating Hamas calls for a ceasefire ignore that there was a ceasefire on Oct. 7, until it was broken by Hamas’s brutal and horrific assault against Israeli civilians early that morning. She also stressed that Hamas has been stealing aid brought in during ceasefires, and has routinely violated previous ceasefires, including ones she personally negotiated.
Going back to her husband’s administration, Mrs. Clinton reminded viewers that there could have been a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza 23 years ago, had only the Palestinian leader Yasir Arafat accepted the Clinton Parameters, President Bill Clinton’s peace plan. After intensive negotiations at Camp David the Israeli leader Ehud Barak accepted the Clinton plan, but Arafat rejected it, flew back home and set off the second intifada, a terrorist onslaught that claimed the lives of 1000 Israelis, most of them civilians.
Much of this relatively recent history seems to have been forgotten, or at least denied because it undermines the pro-Palestinian narrative, so it’s extremely important for a major player in that history to set the record straight.
