At Tehran Funeral, Reuters Deaf to Mass Calls For ‘Death to America,’ ‘Death to Israel’

Reuters, which claims to be able to discern the private dreams of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is seemingly incapable of hearing masses in Tehran chanting “death to America” and “death to Israel.”

Thus, the news agency last week reported with great authority on the purported “decades-old dream of [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu to convince Washington to bring its full military might to thwart Tehran’s atomic ambitions.” But yesterday, Reuters’ great powers of discernment apparently failed its reporters covering  a mass funeral in Tehran for military leaders and nuclear scientists.

Reuters’ article yesterday, “Iran holds funerals for commanders and scientists killed in war with Israel,” contained not one word about the genocidal slogans shouted by the crowds. An accompanying Reuters video about the widely-covered mass funeral likewise was silent on the belligerent calls to eliminate both the U.S. and Israel.

These slogans were widely reported in other media outlets. For instance, Associated Press reported in the second paragraph of its article on the funeral:

The caskets of Guard chief Gen. Hossein Salami, the head of the Guard’s ballistic missile program, Gen. Amir Ali Hajizadeh and others were driven on trucks along the capital’s Azadi Street as people in the crowds chanted: “Death to America” and “Death to Israel.”

Agence France Presse, for its part, reported in the third paragraph:

The state broadcaster showed footage of thousands of people donning black clothes, waving Iranian flags, holding pictures of the slain military commanders, chanting slogans of “Death to America” and “Death to Israel” and trampling the flags of Israel and the US on the ground.

New York Times, too, gave the “death to America” and “death to Israel” chants prominent placement, stating in the third paragraph of its funeral coverage:

The often-heard public chants in the Islamic Republic, “Death to America” and “Death to Israel,” rang out as trucks with caskets inched along the route between two of Tehran’s main squares

CAMERA has contacted Reuters to inquire whether there is a particular reason why news agency omitted these chants from its coverage. We also requested that editors update the story and video to reflect them. Stay tuned for any updates.
