CNN Hides Iran’s Genocidal Ambitions

OCTOBER 15 UPDATE:

In response to CAMERA's communications, CNN acknowledged it had mistranslated the Hebrew text, as discussed below. However, the network failed to then provide its audience with an accurate translation. On October 15, the network read out only the following on air: "Now, on a programming note, last Wednesday we ran a report on script in Farsi and Hebrew on a poster in Tehran. There was a mistranslation of the Hebrew text on the poster and we do regret that error." This statement fails to fully correct the misinformation broadcast by CNN.

As Iran and its terrorist proxies wage war against the Jewish state, CNN owes its audience the truth about Iran’s goal: the destruction of the Jewish state. This is especially so when Iran itself states it publicly.

Yet, in a video report aired on Wednesday, CNN hid Iran’s openly genocidal rhetoric by egregiously mistranslating the regime’s own words.

The video report shows an image of a large sign displayed in Tehran. The sign features images from Iran’s October 1 ballistic missile attack against Israel. Over these images, there is text in both Farsi and Hebrew. The narrator describes the text as follows: "'If you want war, we are the masters of war,' this poster in Revolution Square Reads, both in Farsi and in Hebrew."

In fact, the Hebrew text says: "Israel should be wiped off the face of the earth, and that is just the beginning of the story."

The network’s inaccurate translation substituted Iran’s openly genocidal rhetoric – calling for Israel’s destruction – with language that worked to depict Iran as the victim of Israeli bellicosity.

If viewers are not being given honest and accurate reporting on something so straightforward, how else are they being misled by CNN’s coverage of the conflict?
