With such grand sanctimony comes grand hypocrisy in the pages of The New York Times. Masha Gessen and a band of supposed “good citizens” of a “bad country” promote the idea that “all [Israelis] are responsible” for the imagined evilness of their nation.
The answer as to why these actors are so militant about appointing and defending known anti-Israel partisans and antisemites should be obvious. A fair analysis of the allegations would not produce the outcome they so desire. Whether ensuring only anti-Israel partisans are appointed to investigate Israel or crying “smear campaign” when those partisans are caught saying the quiet part out loud, these actors are invested in creating a lose-lose game for the Jewish state and the Jewish people.
With Israeli plans to apply sovereignty in parts of the West Bank in deep freeze since September, NPR relies on a flimsy pretext to level the baseless apartheid smear at the Jewish state, falsely claiming that the plan prompted an Israeli "debate" about whether West Bank Palestinians live under apartheid.
Haaretz publishes two Op-Eds demonizing Israel, maintaining that Hamas is a legitimate guerilla organization while Israeli soldiers are terrorists, and arguing that "price tag" vandals are no less than "the Jewish KKK," similar to the American KKK "at its height."
