CAMERA Globalizes Media Literacy In English, Spanish, Hebrew, Arabic and French

In the transnational media environment, CAMERA’s multilingual media researchers work across borders and languages to globalize media literacy. Thus, with recent English translations of CAMERA Espanol‘s Spanish investigations about El País, CAMERA educated English-speaking audiences about institutional antisemitism at the leading Spanish newspaper, including the demonization of Barcelona’s targeted Jewish community as genocidaires. We also described in Spanish then English El País’ dramatic post-Oct. 7 race towards militant pro-Hamas advocacy. After initially sharing the critical information on its site, CAMERA Hebrew editor Shlomi Ben Meir this week published an Op-Ed in the newspaper Makor Rishon newspaper, further spreading the word within Israel about El País’ deeply ingrained Jew-hatred and full-on adoption of Hamas talking points.

In addition, CAMERA Arabic research revealing the pro-terror social media posts of Wisam Abu Zeid, a Gaza correspondent for France’s publicly funded Arabic-language radio station Monte Carlo Doualiya (MCD), this week appeared in the prominent French weekly news magazine Valeurs Actuelles.

In his article, Valeurs Actuelles’ Amaury Brelet shared CAMERA Arabic’s findings about Abu Zaid’s Facebook posts, including his Oct. 7, 2023 description of Hamas rocket fire on civilian areas as “resistance” targeting “settlements,” his reference to a deceased prisoner convicted in the killing of six Israeli civilians and a police officer as a “martyr” (Dec. 20, 2022), and his glorification of Palestinians convicted for their involvement in the murder of dozens of Israelis (April 16, 2020), among other instances in which the publicly funded journalist publicly rejoiced in terrorism.

Not only does CAMERA’s international, cross-border and multi-lingual operations enhance our ability to set the record straight on anti-Israel falsehoods and journalistic malpractice regardless of location and language. Our diverse research team, spanning countries and languages, also amplifies our global exposure, reaching audiences across the world to provide them with a glocal education on media literacy, informing both about local lies and far-flung falsehoods.

In various languages, people are noticing. Retweeting an X (formerly Twitter) post from CAMERA Hebrew, social media influencer Gal G. told her Hebrew-speaking followers (translation by CAMERA): “Every Israeli (!) must get to really know the work of CAMERA, which provides a substantive, thorough, and critical review of the media and its biases in a way that aligns with a narrative hostile to Israel. The English account is phenomenal, the Arabic is excellent, and now in Hebrew—critically important. In all the languages: @CAMERAArabic @CAMERAorgES @CAMERAorgUK @CAMERA4Truth.”
