While challenges abound in the Middle East for all, it is time for Palestinian Arabs leaders to begin telling the truth and for The Washington Post to begin checking the facts.
On July 21, The New York Times ran an editorial entitled, "Israel's Embattled Democracy." While editorial boards are free to express their opinions, no matter how foolish they may be, this particular piece is yet more evidence of The Times' obsession with criticizing Israel.
The NPR program, "All Things Considered," featured a segment reported by Lourdes Garcia-Navarro on July 12 that continues her pattern of reporting stories constructed in a manner that shows Israel in a negative light.
Recent press attention has focused on the repatriation of illegal African migrants from Israel. Very little of it has explained the context and difficult challenges facing Israel as a result of large-scale illegal immigration, particularly by non-Jews. None has included mention of Israel's history of welcoming refugees from around the globe.
The Times publishes a puff piece that ignores the insidious truth about the smuggling tunnels between Egypt and the Gaza Strip. Worse still, the story is yet another example of the editors' penchant for humanizing Palestinian Arabs while demonizing Israelis.
The May issue of National Geographic Traveler magazine features an article, "Jerusalem by the Book," in which the author returns to Jerusalem with a guidebook written by his parents in 1951. Unfortunately, when he ventures into territory liberated by Israel in 1967, the author steps into politics and outside the confines of journalistic accuracy.
Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren writes, "Having failed to destroy Israel by conventional arms and terrorism, Israel's enemies alit on a subtler and more sinister tactic that hampers Israel's ability to defend itself, even to justify its existence." And he's right.
In the United Kingdom on Yom HaShoah, readers of TheGuardian were subjected to a grotesque story penned by Jerusalem correspondent Harriet Sherwood, describing Israeli Holocaust survivors "who cannot make ends meet" and implying that Israel neglects them.
