Accuracy and accountability are among the most important tenets of journalism. In combination, they mean media organizations are expected to publish or broadcast forthright corrections after sharing inaccurate information. The following corrections are among the many prompted by CAMERA’s communication with reporters and editors.
CAMERA prompts correction at Deutsche Welle after an Op-Ed incorrectly reported that 600,000 Jewish settlers reside in the Gaza Strip. In 2005, Israel withdrew all of its approximate 8,500 settlers from Gaza.
CAMERA Arabic prompts correction of a Deutsche Welle article which erroneously stated that Israel's Independence Day is celebrated on May 15. Since the holiday follows the Hebrew calendar, the Gregorian date changes from year to year.
Deutsche Welle's report on an Israeli airstrike which hit the Gaza offices of a Turkish news agency failed to note that the targets were Hamas offices housed in the same building. CAMERA called on the German outlet to include the information, and editors commendably did so.
