Many headlines continue to present violence against Israelis differently from that against Palestinians. The latest examples were headlines that appeared following the killing of 7-month-old Shaked Avraham who was shot by a Palestinian terrorist on the Jewish New Year.
The British network has run afoul of the UK government as well as Israel's for its unabashed bias.
The two homicide bombings that rocked the Middle East on August 19, 2003 – targeting in Baghdad UN workers who had come to rebuild the country, and in Jerusalem Jewish families with young children returning from prayer at the Western Wall – elicited early sympathetic reaction on BBC. But it didn’t take very long for the network’s Web site to start implying fault on Israel’s part.
Located under "Action Items" on the CAMERA home page is a new feature focusing on two leading news organizations, the BBC and The Washington Post. BBC-Watch will help expose the severe anti-Israel bias in BBC news coverage. CAMERA's Washington Post-Watch feature also will help spark quick reader responses to coverage in one of America's leading daily newspapers.
More than a year ago (2001-2002), BBC posted on its Web site several profiles of Middle Eastern leaders and groups. The profiles whitewashed Palestinian terrorist figures while, at the same time, harshly disparaging the Israeli prime minister. Despite letters to BBC about its unfair and biased features, the profiles remain unrevised on the Web site. Unfortunately, the misinformation in these features has been quoted and repeated as fact in English language newspapers across the world. For BBC to post such blatantly biased profiles is a violation of its own ethical code of impartiality, accuracy and fairness.
