Media Corrections

Accuracy and accountability are among the most important tenets of journalism. In combination, they mean media organizations are expected to publish or broadcast forthright corrections after sharing inaccurate information. The following corrections are among the many prompted by CAMERA’s communication with reporters and editors.

CAMERA Prompts Better AP Coverage on B’Tselem Report

The Associated Press changed inaccurate coverage today stating that the Justice Ministry did not elaborate on the "mistakes, groundless claims and inaccuracies" said to be in a B'Tselem-Hamoked report alleging Israel's use of torture.

AP Corrects Misquote of Hamas Leader

The Associated Press wrongly claimed that Hamas leader Mohammed Deif, in a July 2006 interview, called for Muslims to fight to liberate the West Bank. After CAMERA pointed out Deif was actually calling to "liberate" Israel in its entirety, the Associated Press published a correction.

AP Corrects Erroneous Description of UN Resolution 242

CAMERA staff prompted a correction at the Associated Press, after the wire service again misreported the details of United Nations Security Council Resolution 242. The amended language makes clear the differences between the actual wording of 242 and the "Arab interpretation" of the resolution.

AP is 1 for 2 on Paul Garwood Corrections

The Associated Press may be bucking a recent trend of failing to correct factual errors. As a result of CAMERA's communication today with a senior editor regarding two errors in a Paul Garwood article, AP corrected a statistic on U.S. aid to Egypt. One other error still stands.

AP Revises Hansen’s Comments

A UN official stunned the world when he admitted Hamas members are on the UN payroll. His comments were sanitized by one AP reporter, and readers are kept in the dark.
