Accuracy and accountability are among the most important tenets of journalism. In combination, they mean media organizations are expected to publish or broadcast forthright corrections after sharing inaccurate information. The following corrections are among the many prompted by CAMERA’s communication with reporters and editors.
In a Chicago Tribune Op-Ed, John Mearsheimer falsely claims that a Hebrew University poll found 21 percent of settlers favor "the use of arms" to resist settlement evacuation. The professor apparently relied on a flawed report by Ha'aretz's Akiva Eldar, and never read the poll itself. 
The AP issues a clarification after reporting that Fahmi Shabaneh, the Palestinian whistleblower who exposed widespread corruption on the part of top Palestinian Authority officials, had been fired two years ago. The Washington Post joined others in correcting the false statement that Israel has a "practice of reserving some roads for Jews." Roads are "open to all Israeli citizens and to other nationals, regardless of religious background," the Post clarified. After wrongly referring to "Israel's practice of reserving some roads for Jews," the AP corrected its wording. But not before one newspaper published the erroneous language.As a result of CAMERA's formal complaint to the BBC, the British media giant removed from its Web site major distortions about the US position on Israeli settlements. CAMERA staff prompted the following correction today at the International Herald Tribune concerning the number of Palestinian casualties from last winter's fighting in the Gaza Strip: A correction in the July 16 edition of the Washington Post addressed the designation of Gilo as a "Jewish settlement." It was the second of two corrections that the Washington Post made in that article in response to CAMERA's request. 
As a result of CAMERA's correspondence with AP, the wire service corrects a photo caption which falsely stated that a Palestinian protester has "passed out" from tear gas fired by Israeli troops.
Gary Fields, an associate professor of communications at UC San Diego, "could not confirm the origin" of a quote he used to demonize Israel in the Tribune. That's because the quote, which was recently corrected by the New York Times and International Herald Tribune, is fabricated. The Journal initially relayed a United Nations claim that Israel fired on and killed a UN worker without pointing out that an Israeli investigation showed otherwise. The newspaper commendably corrected this error of omission.
