Much of the mainstream media coverage of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is marred by the attempt to fit breaking events into a pre-existing, simplistic narrative whereby Palestinians are not held directly responsible for their actions. This again was the case with the coverage of the brutal massacre in a Jerusalem synagogue. 
The Middle East has descended into violence. But it was a statistician's questions about the ratio of civilian fatalities in Gaza that stirred such outrage that the world's largest media organization felt compelled to censor his analysis. 
BBC interviews of Israeli spokesman Mark Regev, UNRWA spokesman Chris Gunness, and Hamas leader Khalid Meshall illustrate, once again, the BBC's profound bias against Israel and in favor of Israel's critics, even if they are, like, Meshall, genocidal jihadists. 
This year, the media have blundered all too many times in reporting on the Middle East. There were, unfortunately, countless potential “winners,” but CAMERA has identified our ten worst offenders.
CAMERA opens its Jerusalem office this week. The new facility is home to our affiliates Presspectiva and CiF Watch and will enable increased activity in promoting accurate reporting in the North American, European and Israeli media. 
After CAMERA and its affiliate BBC Watch highlighted a falsehood in Lyse Doucet's interview of Shimon Peres, and after a reader filed a complaint with the BBC, the broadcaster appended a correction to their Web site. BBC reporter Wyre Davies violated the broadcaster's guideline calling for accuracy, admitted the Editorial Standards Committee of the BBC Trust. But the ESC seems less sure about what to do about it. 
All too often, mainstream media outlets whitewash the violent acts of Palestinian prisoners. Calling those incarcerated since before 1994 "political prisoners" is an egregious cover up of their brutal crimes, detailed here for the first time. 
An anonymous BBC source in Lebanon says that Israel is "laughing" at the upheaval on its northern border, and Beirut correspondent Jim Muir concurs, explaining that it is "hard to imagine Israel not being happy." But one doesn't need a vivid imagination to understand Israeli concerns.
