Accuracy and accountability are among the most important tenets of journalism. In combination, they mean media organizations are expected to publish or broadcast forthright corrections after sharing inaccurate information. The following corrections are among the many prompted by CAMERA’s communication with reporters and editors.
CAMERA prompts corrections at AP, DPA and Haaretz's English edition, where captions stated as fact that Israel was responsible for Ibrahim Abu Thuraya's death, despite unclear circumstances. The captions also wrongly said he lost his legs in an Israeli bombing. CAMERA today prompts correction of an Haaretz article wrongly identified the Western Wall as "Judaism's holiest site." (That distinction belongs to the Temple Mount.) Another "Haaretz, Lost in Translation," the error had appeared only in the paper's English edition. CAMERA prompts correction of an Haaretz English edition report which incorrectly stated that residents of Dickinson, Tx., applying for Hurricane Irma relief were required to verify that they don't boycott Israeli settlements. CAMERA prompts correction of a Haaretz photo caption which erroneously identified anti-BDS (boycott, divest, sanctions) activists as BDS activists. The caption error ironically accompanied a column about the "imaginary demon" of BDS. CAMERA prompts several corrections after multiple media outlets stated as fact that the Shamasnehs, evicted from their Sheik Jarrah home, had lived there since 1964, making them "protected tenants." Times of Israel, Haaretz and The Jerusalem Post correct: The courts found no evidence of residency prior to 1968, and thus the family did not have that status. For at least the second time, CAMERA prompt corrections at Haaretz, in both English and Hebrew, of an inflated figure for 2014 Palestinian fatalities in Rafah during "Black Friday." "Jews are the least of its victims," Haaretz's Gidon Levy says of hate crimes in America, citing false figures. CAMERA and Presspectiva prompt corrections in English and Hebrew: Jews are the most targeted religious group in the U.S. 
It's undisputed that Yakub Musa al-Kiyan fatally ran over policeman Erez Levy, but Haaretz English edition had referred to al-Kiyan's involvement as a "police claim." After flagging the latest "Haaretz, Lost in Translation," CAMERA prompts corrections. CAMERA prompts correction of AFP and Haaretz photo captions that wrongly identified a flag in the hands of a pro-Assad regime fighter in Aleppo. (Updated.)
