AD: Correct Carter’s Falsehoods

CAMERA ran this full-page ad calling on the publishers of Jimmy Carter's error-riddled book to correct its falsehoods.

Presbyterian (PCUSA) Leaders Should Be Urged to Reject Divestment

From June 15 through June 22, the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA), a Protestant denomination with approximately 2.3 million members, will pass judgment on the defense policies of Israel as it defends itself from terror attacks from the Hamas-dominated Palestinian Authority. The leadership of the PCUSA should consider more than just the Palestinian perspective, to acknowledge the 58-year history of Arab rejectionism toward the State of Israel, and to vote to rescind the unfair and counterproductive selective divestment initiative begun in 2004.

Guardian’s False Apartheid Charges—Part II

Part two of CAMERA's investigation into Chris McGreal's Guardian feature comparing Israel to apartheid South Africa reveals more erroneous and distorted reporting by the newspaper's Middle East correspondent.

Guardian Defames Israel with False Apartheid Charges

A recent series of articles in the Guardian by Chris McGreal charges that Israel is an apartheid state similar to the old South Africa. According to the paper, "after four years reporting from Jerusalem and more than a decade from Johannesburg before that, the Guardian's award-winning Middle East correspondent Chris McGreal is exceptionally well placed to assess this explosive comparison." Explosive the comparison certainly is, especially because a CAMERA investigation reveals that Mr. McGreal's arguments are uniformly based either on materially false assertions, or on assertions wrenched grotesquely out of context.

Guardian portrays Israel as an Apartheid State

In an all-out assault on Israel's legitimacy, the Guardian newspaper has published a lengthy two-day "Special Report" on February 6 and 7 by reporter Chris McGreal, promoting the false and defamatory allegation that Israel is an apartheid and colonial state.

Hitchens Defames Sharon in Slate

No sooner did Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon suffer a massive stroke, than Slate posted an error-ridden column by regular contributor Christopher Hitchens, falsely suggesting that Ariel Sharon masterminded the 1982 massacre of Palestinians in the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps in Lebanon. Ironically, the article is meant to praise Sharon, albeit grudgingly, for his political transformation from a proponent of the settler movement to a proponent of the creation of a Palestinian state. But to do this, Hitchens demonizes the Israeli leader's past actions, misrepresenting the facts along the way.

UPDATED: Ha’aretz Indifferent to Journalistic Norms

Nov. 28 update follows.  In contrast to international and American media outlets, Ha'aretz apparently considers itself above criticism. Ha'aretz editors seem unaccustomed to responding to readers in a straightforward process and appear to believe readers have no right to fault them for shoddy, inaccurate coverage.
