Chicago Tribune Corrects Misquote by UCSD’s Gary Fields

Gary Fields, an associate professor of communications at UC San Diego, "could not confirm the origin" of a quote he used to demonize Israel in the Tribune. That's because the quote, which was recently corrected by the New York Times and International Herald Tribune, is fabricated.

AP Corrects Misquote of Hamas Leader

The Associated Press wrongly claimed that Hamas leader Mohammed Deif, in a July 2006 interview, called for Muslims to fight to liberate the West Bank. After CAMERA pointed out Deif was actually calling to "liberate" Israel in its entirety, the Associated Press published a correction.

Updated: U.of Illinois Paper Publishes, Corrects Bogus ‘Quotation’ for 2nd Time

The University of Illinois newspaper, The Daily Illini, has again published a bogus, defamatory quotation attributed to Israeli Prime Minister Sharon even though its own columnist issued a public retraction and apology less than a year ago for using the same quote. The paper apologizes and corrects again due to CAMERA's efforts.

Chicago Tribune Prints Correction

In response to concerns raised by CAMERA the Chicago Tribune has printed a partial correction of a misleading Nov. 17 article. CAMERA criticized the story by Uli Schmetzer entitled “War of Attrition Claims Beloved Medic,” for misrepresenting a quotation from an Israeli soldier and misreporting the chronology of fighting in the Gilo-Beit Jala region as well as the threat that Jewish residents of Gilo face.
